A massive fire broke out at the centuries-old iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France on Monday evening. The extent of the damage to the rest of the cathedral is not clear. The two main rectangular towers have been saved and preserved, but much of the monument’s roof has been destroyed along with the spire. The cause of the fire is not known though it is being said to be an accident and linked to the monument’s restoration work.
The 800-year-old Church is one of the most cherished attractions in Paris and the French government is working towards its reconstruction and restoration.
Several of France’s wealthiest citizens have set forward for financial support and over $560 million have been pledged towards the restoration of the Parisian landmark.
