Job Description:Job Purpose: The Head of Department Fine Arts, directly influences the quality of learning and teaching throughout the school. The position is one that requires leadership in relation to curriculum initiatives, the learning and teaching process and co-ordination across a range of classes in the overseeing of Fine Arts curriculum. The Head of Department Fine Arts will facilitate student learning with the department in order to enable all students to achieve to their fullest potential. The HOD will carry out their duties and exercise leadership in a democratic framework wherein delegation of responsibility, scope to take initiative, collaboration and dialogue between members of the department is fundamental. Key Responsibilities: 1.Operations and Future Development of the Fine Arts Department a.Develop an approach to the operations of the department that includes innovative subject/curriculum area policies, future plans and targets within the context of the schools strategic plan. Develop a plan for the expansion of Fine Arts language subjects teaching and learning processes to drive improvement across the school in standards, achievement and attainment inclusive of CBSE Board results. 2.Teaching and Learning a.Ensure effective teaching and assessment processes within the Fine Arts department, evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, the achievement of all students and set targets for improvement. b.It is imperative for the HOD to take at least one teaching class through the academic year. The idea is to demonstrate all teaching learning processes and practices in action that are desired for all teachers within the department to follow. The HOD may be expected to teach more than one teaching classes depending on the need in the given situation. 3.Leading and managing team members a.Provide active leadership for all those involved in teaching or supporting the members of the department. This will include mentoring, collaborating and the sharing of information so that staff motivation is at an optimum level to encourage continuous improvement in the quality of teaching and learning. b.Manage all teachers in the department along with the classes assigned, including assisting with recruitment, managing performance and meeting agreed targets. c.Create efficient team by inspiring and motivating students and teachers. d.Be a positive role model for the department by taking responsibility for the continuous improvement of the team within the context of the school. e.Foster the individual development of the members in the department viz a viz the vision and the philosophy of THS and to mentor them consistently. 4.Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources a.Identify appropriate resources for the department and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely. 5.Strengthening Community a.Work collaboratively at both strategic and operational levels with other Heads of Department, parents and students. 6.Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning a.Develop, select and use informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning. b.Provide timely, effective and appropriate feedback to students about their achievement relative to their learning goals. c.Organise assessment moderation activities that support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning. d.Work with team to use data from internal and external student assessments for evaluating learning and teaching, identifying interventions and modifying teaching practice. e.Work with team to construct accurate, informative and timely reports to students and parents/carers about student learning and achievement. PROFESSIONAL DUTIES AND ROLE ACCOUNTABILITY The Head of Department is responsible for: 1Leading and managing the department including, modelling best practice in Fine Arts teaching, implementation of curriculum (Grade 6-12), monitoring achievement of students and effectiveness of teachers, dealing with all operational, budgeting and record keeping requirements and ensuring fair and effective assessment procedures. 2Ensuring continuous innovation in processes involved in Fine Arts learning and teaching. Providing opportunities for enrichment for gifted students and work towards differentiating the curriculum needs for students 3Encouraging the use of ICT in all appropriate areas of Fine Arts learning 4 Actively work with members of the Fine Arts department in planning the way forward for the professional learning needs of the faculty. 5 Attending and contributing to Curriculum Team meetings on behalf of the faculty. 6 Hold regular faculty meetings with published/agreed/strategic agendas with subject teachers.
